Ten years have passed since participation in Amsterdam boat show where the first hydrofoil stabilized Catri 26 outranged other competitors during trials proudly announcing itself to the sailor world. The Catri concept has been improved since then, provoking rising interest about itself. Therefore germane remark is – why there are still so few Catri? Why the serial construction of Catri 24 has begun only now? Why this home page is opened only now?
In theory the Catri concept is complex. The two different foil systems for two environments predict complicated requirements of dynamic balance. It was not preferable to start serial construction while there were lots of improvement possibilities coming out during probations. Also some unexpected factors played role. Some unfamiliar with sailing people perceived possibilities of gravy. As a result not all of trimaran construction efforts were successful. Thus it is not recommended to trust disinformation and offers of unlicensed constructors. Catri concept is patented and usable only with license of the author and quality attestant CE certificate.
Serial construction of the smallest of C class trimarans – Catri 24 has begun now after probation of the first five constructed Catri 24. See trials at Weymouth Speed Week 2005 at the picture. Wider serial construction is planned for B class trimaran Catri 27R. After first probations this modification has got higher mast, more powerful sail layout and additional stability, thus orienting to higher speed during competitions. Construction of hull plug of Catri 30R and Catri 33X trimarans has been initiated. More detailed information about these projects can be found in corresponding sections of the home page.
Catri has principally different hydrofoil concept. This is the first yacht designeded for hydrofoil surfing mode, when hull is dynamically stabilized while floating the water. Possibilities of the concept not in the least are exhausted. Therefore further analysis of the concept is started in co-operation with Riga Technical University. We will be pleased to receive references, evaluations and suggestions from Catri trimaran owners that make indispensable material for concept improvement in the interests of the whole Catri society.
